Specialty Classes

Since gifted children are naturally inquisitive, we encourage them to delve deeply into a subject, exploring it from every direction. Students start with a solid foundation in reading, writing, math and science, as well as Spanish, physical education and social studies. In addition, to create balance and nurture talent, our students also discover the arts and use of technology. The following specialty subjects are an integral part of our curriculum:

Music
All Rhoades students learn music theory and application in our state-of-the-art music lab, and older students have the opportunity to compose their own music.

Ceramics
Elementary students work with a ceramicist one trimester per year, and use our indoor/outdoor studio and kiln.

Technology
Primary grades begin by learning basic keyboard skills and equipment care. Older students create their own websites and podcasts. Homework may include a private class blog, where students engage in virtual discussions that continue into the next day’s class. Internet safety is stressed at all levels.

21st Century Skills
In a world of instant information, there’s a growing need to learn information literacy skills by applying critical and analytical thinking to available information. Teachers work to develop each student’s skills in those areas.
