She has extensive knowledge of and experience with gifted and talented students, both as a building administrator, district leader, and classroom teacher.

In Dr. McDuffie’s application essay, she shares what she has learned in her leadership roles in independent schools:

“I have also learned over the years that independent schools play a critical role for the students they serve because it is important for bright and motivated children to be with peers who are like them. The independent school environment provides a safe, nurturing place where students are willing to take learning risks and where they can grow socially and emotionally as well as academically.”

Comments from the Search Committee after Dr. McDuffie’s interview on the campus on March 26 included:
  • Carries herself with confidence and humility
  • Dedicated gifted education experience
  • Articulate, courageous, and caring
  • Thoroughly knowledgeable of current research and how to implement it
We are currently working through a transition plan for Dr. McDuffie that includes finishing her responsibilities at St. Margaret’s, as well as introducing herself to the students, staff, and families at The Rhoades School. Please look for more detailed information on this transition plan by the end of April.

Congratulations and welcome, Dr. McDuffie!
