The Rhoades School Robotics Team
The Rhoades School Robotics Team, Tech Attack, entered their robot, Sir Techy, in the FIRST LEGO LEAGUE (FLL) Robotic Competition at UCSD's Preuss School on Saturday, November 12, 2011.  The team was required to select, research, and solve a real-world problem related to food safety and present a solution to the judges in a concise and engaging manner.  The enthusiastic programmers were nominateed for four awards in the Project and Teamwork categories.  We are thrilled to announce that the Tech Attack team won the Inspiration Award!  Furthermore, Sir Techy scored 9th place out of 27 teams, which in combination with the project and teamwork performances, qualifies Tech Attack for the regional tournament to be held at Legoland on December 3, 2011.  Congratulations, Tech Attack!
 
2010 Science Fair Updatescience teacher
On February 8th, our 7th and 8th grade science students competed in the North County screening to see who would qualify to exhibit at the County Science Fair. Remarkably, every one of our students' projects was selected - another first for The Rhoades School. Congratulations to each of our 7th and 8th grade students, and to their mentor, Mrs. Roxanne Hunker. The County Science Fair will take place during the last week of March. [2009-10]

WASC Accreditation
The Rhoades School is proud to announce that we have been re-accredited for the maximum six year term by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), a regional association that accredits public and private schools, colleges, and universities in the United States. [2008-09] div>

Graduating Eighth Grader Honored at the San Diego County Fair
The "Best of Show" award was, for the second time, awarded to a Rhoades School graduating eighth grader at the San Diego County Fair for his science fair project. Congratulations for all of your hard work! [2008-09]

Rhoades Students Excel at California State Science Fair
A record 27 Rhoades School students presented their projects at the California State Science Fair in Los Angeles this month. The judging resulted in twelve Rhoades School awards, including two First Place awards, three Second Places, two Third Places, one Fourth Place, and four Honorable Mentions. For the second year in a row, the number of awards received by Rhoades School students was the greatest of any California school at the Science Fair. Congratulations to our young scientists, and to their teacher and mentor, Mrs. Roxanne Hunker!  [2008-09]

Rhoades School Students Win Multiple Top Honors at 55th Annual Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair
Rhoades School students, who participate in the Junior Division of the County Science Fair, were awarded a record 34 First Place awards, 5 Second Place awards, 3 Third Place awards, and 31 Professional Society awards. In addition, 2 students were named as Sweepstakes Awards winners and one additional as an alternate. Of the 34 First Place winners, 27 have been chosen to go on to the California State Science Fair held in Los Angeles in May. [2008-09]

Music Is in the Air
As a result of his success in the San Diego Symphony's 2008 Hot Shots Young Artist Competition, a Rhoades School 7th grader exquisitely performed Franz Joseph Haydn's Concerto in D Major with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he received a monetary prize donated by the Advocates for Classical Music. Performing for a full house including Rhoades teachers, staff, and friends, our young musician gave a remarkable performance. In his words, "I do not know where music will lead me but I know music will always accompany me. Music is a gift of life." [2008-09]

Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth Honors Rhoades School Students
We are pleased to announce that 18 students earned High Honors and one Distinction in the 2009 Center for Talented Youth assessment program. [2008-09]
 
Spelling Champs
Competing against hundreds of county contestants, our 8th grade School Spelling Bee winner took fifth place in the San Diego County Spelling Bee. One of our 4th grade students placed second in the highly competitive Orange County Jamboree Spelling Bee.  [2008-09]

National Geography Bee
Through a special exam, the Rhoades School Geography Bee winner qualified to represent The Rhoades School at the State National Geography Bee in Sacramento!  [2008-09]

Dancing With the Stars
The Rhoades School physical education director and her partner placed second at the Nationals in their ballroom dance division. They danced the waltz, tango, Viennese waltz, foxtrot, and the quickstep. By placing second, they represented the U.S.A. at the world competition in Spain and placed 20th out of 270! [2008-09]

Math Whiz
After taking first place in the San Diego Math Counts competition, a Rhoades School eighth grade student earned second place in the Southern California Math Competition. His award represents a major achievement considering the level and complexity of the math problems that were part of the competition. [2008-09]

Scholar - Athlete Stands Out
A Rhoades School 5th grade student has been selected as a 2008-2009 Pop Warner All-American Scholar! As a recipient of this year's All-American Scholar Honor, he ranks academically in the top 2% of approximately 410,000 children that take part in the Pop Warner Little Scholars spirit and football programs! California Stock Market Game
This spring three 5th graders placed in the top ten teams in California in this year's Stock Market Game. As part of our Economics curriculum, students participate in this program to sharpen their saving and investing knowledge. Congratulations to these young financiers on their success! [2008-09]

Artists Feted
Hats off to a 6th grade student and four 3rd graders whose works of art have been selected by the San Diego Museum of Art for display in the Young Art 2009 exhibit. Based upon the theme of Expressing Literature, their works were selected for their artistic expression of literary pieces. [2008-09]
