Rhoades School team is Future City Southern California Regional Champion; advances to Finals in D.C.

A team of sixth graders from The Rhoades School were crowned champions in the Future City Southern California Regional event on Saturday, January 20 at Grossmont Community College.

Future City starts with a question—how can we make the world a better place? This year’s theme was The Age Friendly City. Teams identified an age-related challenge that exists in today’s urban environments and engineered two innovative solutions that allow their future city’s senior citizens to be active, independent, and engaged. A total of 27 teams from 11 schools participated in the event, including three teams from Rhoades:
• DesignWorks (Arjun, Aviya, Kai)
• The Ducks (Grace, Sienna, Willa)
• The Imaginators (Anusha, Bhadra, Cameron, Luke)

Rhoades students took home several awards. The DesignWorks team won Best Futuristic City and the People’s Choice award for their City Model. The Imaginators were the overall winners, taking home the trophy as the Future City Southern California Regional Champion.

The Imaginators advance to the 2018 Finals in Washington, D.C. in February 2018. This international competition will feature teams from the US, Canada, China, Egypt and other countries from around the world.

Congratulations to all of our students for their impressive, creative, and innovative designs!
