Welcome to the Rhoades School! ¡Bienvenidos a la Escuela Rhoades!
I was born and raised in Mexico City. I received my bachelor’s degree in Education and did two years of a master in Special Education.
I got married to my high school sweetheart and shortly after we moved away from Mexico City. I have had the privilege of living in many countries including Canada, Sweden, Portugal, & Spain before settling in San Diego 18 years ago. We have 3 kids: Fernando who is 29 and was born in Mexico City; David who just turned 23 and was born in Montreal, Canada and Gaby who is 16 and was born here in San Diego. I had the fortune to be with my kids when they were little but when we moved to San Diego I had the opportunity to do what I love doing: “TEACHING”. I bring to The Rhoades School, 14 years of experience from Horizon Prep, where I developed the Spanish program for preschool & elementary. I started teaching at Horizon Prep a couple of hours a week, but every year they offered me more and more hours until I was teaching full time. I started teaching elementary kids from Kindergarten to 5th grade but it was not until 8 years ago that I had the privilege to teach preschool to 5th grades. The Spanish Program for Preschool and Elementary School that I developed uses a variety of techniques like “the spiral method” which tries to keep concepts and vocabulary learned at the top of the student’s mind. This is achieved by continuously reviewing the concepts and vocabulary taught, while adding new words; this process helps to build a solid foundation for students to continue to build upon. The overall objective of my program is to develop listening and speaking proficiency.
