Miranda Garcia - 2nd Grade

My name is Miranda Garcia. I was born and raised on the east coast. After graduating college, I moved to Washington, DC and began my teaching career in DC public schools. I quickly developed a passion for teaching; even in that difficult first year in the classroom, I knew I wanted to be a life-long educator.

After several years of teaching, I enrolled in graduate school at Trinity Washington University to earn my M.Ed in Reading & Curriculum Development. Upon graduation, my husband and I moved to New York City where I continued to expand my teaching experience and began working as certified Reading Specialist. While teaching at Avenues: The World School in Manhattan, I decided once again to gain more training in my specialty. I enrolled in the Reading Recovery Program at New York University and became a certified Reading Recovery teacher.

A few years ago, I took on the most important role I’ve ever undertaken – I became a mother. With a new outlook on life as parents, my husband and I decided that we would soon seek a more balanced lifestyle away from the hustle and bustle of New York. Our opportunity came in 2017, so we packed up and moved across country, settling down in San Diego. We couldn’t be any happier!

One thing to learn about me is that teaching is not my only passion. I am passionate about travel, exploring nature, reading, fermenting foods, cooking, yoga, and spending quality time with my family and friends.

I am thrilled to be a part of the superb faculty at The Rhoades School.
