Rhoades Middle School Instructor Teaches Writing Workshop at UCSD

This past summer, Wendy Schramm, along with two other teacher-consultants with the San Diego Area Writing Project (SDAWP), led the workshop “Building a Writing Community” for K-6 teachers. This workshop was created to help teachers develop authentic experiences designed to build a safe, inclusive community of writers starting on the very first day of school. Among other techniques, Mrs. Schramm gave presentations on keeping a writer’s notebook, exploring mentor texts, writing short-form memoirs, using movie loglines as a catalyst for writing longer pieces, and taking an on-campus writing “field trip” using the geolocating app What3Words.
