Students and staff sing Broadway Tunes for the Blue Rose Theatre Project, raising funds for El Shaddai Children’s Home

Students and faculty joined forces to serenade the audience with Broadway melodies in support of the Blue Rose Theatre Project’s noble cause. This heartwarming evening unfolded at the Grand Ritz Theatre in Escondido on the evening of September 30th. Collaborating with various San Diego-based schools and children, members of The Rhoades School lent their voices to the Blue Rose Theatre Project, crooning Broadway tunes to raise funds for El Shaddai Children’s Home in Eswatini.

The event commenced with Ava and her companions, who served as the evening’s emcees, introducing Siobahn Crews, the Founder and Director of the Blue Rose Theatre Project and a teacher at The Rhoades School. Siobahn mesmerized the audience with her rendition of the Prologue from “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

In Act I, two eighth-graders from The Rhoades School, Isabella and Mikayla, delivered a captivating duet titled “What is this feeling?” from the Broadway hit, “Wicked.”

Act I reached its crescendo as Aaron Johnson, the Before and After School Counselor, took the stage for a performance of “Season of Love” from “RENT!”

Following a brief intermission, Act II featured Siobhan in a delightful duet, enthralling the audience with “You’ve Got A Friend.”

The evening’s grand finale showcased the song “Man in the Mirror,” brought to life by an ensemble of voices. Aaron Johnson, the Before and After School Counselor, kicked off the song with a powerful solo performance, followed by Olguita Vazquez, Head of School at The Rhoades School, who delivered an astounding solo of her own. The entire choir then came together to deliver a resounding finish, with singers positioned offstage next to the audience members, who were enthusiastically encouraged to join in and sing along.

Despite being a voluntary event and not officially sponsored by The Rhoades School, the institution was proud to stand beside its committed students and staff, who dedicated their Saturday night to raise an impressive $5,100 in support of the children at El Shaddai Children’s Home in Eswatini.
